DC Introduces Darker ‘Titans’ at SDCC, Trailer Underwhelms

DC is decidedly going all-in with the dark take on their universe. Whether you will like what you see in this trailer or not, it appears that the company is hell-bent on forcing a darker version of their characters down fans throats. Whether you like it or not. The first official trailer for Titans dropped today at San Diego Comic-Con. (You might want to sit down for this one.)If you’re a fan of cheesy one-liners and characters that belong in a 1990’s version of the Teen Titans, then you have found the show of your dreams. Instead of giving fans a short introduction to every character, DC laid all of thier chips on the table in this trailer.

The trailer essentially begin with Robin (Brenton Thwaites) saying “F*** Batman”. Lets ignore the fact that this is suppossed to be a brooding Dick Grayson. This version of robin is nothing like Dick Grayson, who is presented in the comics as Batman’s opposite. He is the light to Bruce Wayne’s Dark Knight. This version of the Boy Wonder is more akin to Jason Todd Rather than Grayson.

The trailer for Titans isn’t all bad. It will be interesting to see how DC approaches this mature version of the Titans. This show is dark enough to separate itself from the popular Teen Titans Go! That is the best thing going for this show right now. Trailer also gives viewers brief glimpses of Raven (Teagan Croft), Beast Boy, and Starfire. Will we see a television form of Cyborg? If we do, that will be a definite ‘Boo-ya!’

Will Titans stand strong with other quality DC television shows like Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl? If it fails, it will be the first one in a while to do so. (I’m not counting Constantine, because quality isn’t why that show failed.) We will see when the series airs next year on the DC streaming service.
