Idris Elba recently landed a role in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, and it’s believed that he replaces Will Smith as Deadshot. Recent reports indicate that this isn’t the case.

James Gunn retooled the idea, writing in a completely new character for Elba. A new report from Forbes indicates that Elba will portray Bronze Tiger in the film.

In the comics, Bronze Tiger is considered the greatest martial artist in the world. He is also a member of the League of Assassins and a friend/enemy of Deathstroke. Michael Jai White portrayed the character in CW’s Arrow.

The Suicide Squad expects to begin filming towards the end of 2019.

The report goes on to say that Robin will be the main character in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Additional role casting announcements will come soon.

The Supergirl film is expected to start production in the first quarter of 2020.

In other news, The New York Times spoke to actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead about her upcoming film Birds of Prey. She says:

“I play this assassin who’s been trained since childhood. It’s all women and genuinely funny and weird. It feels from the 1990s, in the best way.”

It seems like female superhero films set in the 1990s are all the rage now.
