If you are one of the few people left in the self-quarantined United States that hasn’t watched Netflix’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, what the hell is wrong with you?!
The film’s fantastic and features one of the catchiest made-for-movie songs you will ever know, ‘Jaja Ding Dong’.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga is the tale of aspiring singing duo FIRE SAGA (Will Ferrell and Rachael McAdams) as they accidentally represent Iceland in Europes biggest singing contest.
Fun fact for Americans, the Eurovision Song Contest is real, and its one of the longest-running song contests of all-time.
The competition kicked-off in Switzerland in 1956 and was used as a way to bring post-WWII European nations together.
The contest is something akin to The Voice, but as the film puts it, Eurovision is nothing like The Voice. Funny thing is that most of the song talent comes from past Voice contestants.
The music in this movie is great. Pretty much every song is really good, including the catchiest song you will ever hear, ‘Jaja Ding Dong’. Seriously. This song’s infectious, and it’s stuck in my head.
I watched the movie a few days ago and I seriously cannot get ‘Jaja Ding Dong’ out of my head! It haunts my dreams. In the film, Fire Saga submits their song Double Trouble for the contest, but it ‘Jaja Ding Dong’ that continues to shine.
In the universe of the movie, ‘Jaja Ding Dong’ couldn’t be Fire Saga’s submission song, because it wasn’t a song they wrote. ‘Jaja Ding Dong’ is a pop song that became as popular as a folk song.
Imagine the song being as popular as Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing‘ or Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ on a Prayer‘ in Iceland.
When the song’s bass line introduction starts the whole bar begins to dance and sing. It truly is Eurovision Song Contest‘s ‘Sweet Caroline.‘
Producer Savan Kotech told Vulture, “We were trying to create a bar song that Fire Saga didn’t write, because in the movie, supposedly, this is just a traditional song.”
Ok. I have a little disclaimer here. Experiencing this song for the first time should when watching the film.
The mojo you feel for this song in the scene with the environment and the attitudes of the supporting characters make this song better. So do yourself a favor, go watch Eurovision Song Contest.
Gustaf Holter and Christian Persson drew from classic Dutch folksongs to write ‘Jaja Ding Dong‘. The intent was to write a song that was ridiculously catchy. I would say this is a “great success!”
The entire song’s laced with sexual innuendo, but the way that Ferrell and McAdams perform it, you would never guess it without listening to the lyrics closely.
There is a simple charm in the tune, that only grows each time you listen to it. The song’s performed by Ferrell and McAdams voice blended with 27-year-old Molly Sanden (My Marianne).

‘Jaja Ding Dong’ Lyrics
[Verse 1: Will Ferrell, Molly Sanden, Both]
When I feel your gentle touch
And things are going our way
I wanna spill my love on you all day, all day
[Chorus: Will Ferrell & Molly Sandén]
Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)
My love for you is growing wide and long
Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)
I swell and burst when I see what we’ve become
Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)
Come, come my baby, we can get love on
Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)
When I see you I feel a ding-ding dong
[Verse 2: Will Ferrell, Molly Sandén]
Love expands when I’m with you
All over the Milky Way
I wanna open up to you all day, all day
Alright everyone, move your body, woo
[Chorus: Will Ferrell & Molly Sandén, Will Ferrell]
Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)
My love for you is growing wide and long
Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)
I swell and burst when I see what we’ve become (Come on everyone)
Jaja a-ding dong (Ding dong)
Come, come my baby, we can get love on
Jaja ding dong (Ding dong)
When I see you I feel a ding-ding dong
If you’re in a cover band, you just need to go ahead and add this song to the middle of the third set. It may take crowds a few weeks, but it won’t take long for the song to catch fire.
