‘It’: Let the New Pennywise Haunt Your Dreams Tonight

Stephen King’s It is a story that haunted my imagination for most of my child, ever since its incarnation in 1986. When the story was adapted for the small screen, nightmares became a reality for me. Now news comes that Pennywise will terrorize Ben, Richie, and Stan once again, but in theaters this time. Will the “Ritual Of Chüd” be enough this time? Feast your eyes on this haunting new face of It. This is an image that will scare the  hell out of every clown-hater out there. Check it out below:

Entertainment Weekly gives us the first full body look of Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise. The It reboot is being helmed by Andy Muschietti, and it seems to be a lot darker than its small screen counterpart. According to costume designer, Janie Bryant, the approach was to make Pennywise seem more child-like and doll-like. This is in stark contrast to the bright colors that the child-murdering clown brandished in the television movie. She says:

There is almost a doll-like quality to the costume: The pants being short, the high waistline of the jacket, and the fit of the costume is a very important element. It gives the character a child-like quality.

Bryant goes on to say that the new Pennywise will be “almost like a shadow,” ambushing his prey rather than luring them in with his bright-colored appearance. This Pennywise will wear muted dark colors. The costume looks aged, dirty, distorted, and (above everything else) creepy as hell. This is not the Tim Curry-led version you remember. This adaptation will stick close to the source material, which is full of child murder.

It is currently shooting for a September 8, 2017 theatrical release.
