Warner Bros. Pictures drops the first footage from the Jason Momoa-led Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. James Wan directs the sequel, which gives viewers a glimpse of what’s to come from the full-length trailer set to drop sometime Thursday.

Although this clip is only 30 seconds, there’s plenty to feast your eyes on. Check out the first clip from Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom below:

The footage is brief but includes plenty of things to break down. The first thing to note is this is the last official Zack Snyder’s DCEU film. Moving forward, we’re in James Gunn’s territory.

James Wan’s just bringing back the villains from the first film, but they’re better equipped this time. In the early part of the film, Black Manta is rumored to find a mysterious black trident (with a green glow as seen at CinemaCon.)

This trident gives him the power to destroy Arthur Curry and everything he holds dear.

The teaser shows the submersible grabbing Ocean Master as he tries to swim off, and a brief glimpse of the creatures from the Trench. With Wan’s stand-alone Trench origin film in the trash, this film could include some ideas discussed for that movie.

Mera (Amber Heard) appears in the film, but as known from the Johnny Depp/Heard trial, Mera is caring for her and Curry’s new son. Could this be Aqualad? According to Heard, she isn’t in the film much. We will have to wait for the release to confirm that detail.

The teaser hints that this time around, Ocean Master fights alongside Arthur Curry to protect Atlantis from Black Manta. Atlanna (Nicole Kidman) also joins the brother in the fight to protect Atlantis. Check out the official synopsis of the film below:

“Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all.

This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force.

To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman”

Could the Black Trident give Manta the power to control the Trench? It’s an exciting thought.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom stars Jason Moma, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, and Randall Park.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom opens in theaters worldwide beginning December 20.
