FOX made a big announcement today, stating that the hit series X-Files is set to return to the network this year. The added episodes will be an eleventh season for the science fiction show, that saw amazing ratings last year during the reunion (Season 10). The good news is that we get more Dana Scully and Fox Moulder. Actually, they really aren’t allowed to die, we need Dana Scully and Fox Moulder in our lives forever.

The six-episode tenth season garnered sixteen million viewers across multiple platforms. It was the number 2 broadcast drama of last season. The eleventh season will see the return of creator Chris Carter to the executive producers chair, and will star David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson. Production is set to begin this summer, and the show is shooting to air during the 2017-2018 season.

In a recent statement, the president of FOX Broadcasting Company, David Madden, said:

“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”

More X-Files is never a bad thing. The show dominated the television landscape during the 90’s. Although it took a long hiatus, the show came back strong last year with season 10. This was despite having two films with minimal success, and tended to stray from the original plot of the television show.
