Green Lantern HBO Max Show Ordered to Series

Green Lantern fans can rest easy knowing the movie will soon be a distant memory. The HBO Max series that was confirmed a year or so ago is moving ahead. Courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, we know Lantern is ordered to series.

There’s going to be ten sixty-minute episodes, and who knows if it does well that might only be the first season. Lantern‘s first episode is going to be co-written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim.

The latter’s name is well-known to fans of Arrow after he took over showrunner responsibility from season 3 to season 6.

Meanwhile, Seth Grahame-Smith is known for creating Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and writing The LEGO Batman Movie. Also, he will be spearheading the series as its showrunner.

The production company behind the Green Lantern series is Berlanti Productions.

Greg Berlanti is no stranger to the DC Universe. After all, he is the one behind the Arrowverse, and many other DC shows.

However, for now, it seems this will not crossover with any of the others. It’s going to be its own project, and rightfully so.

The Green Lanterns are a group of space police who keep the peace through the universe. They are overseen by the Guardians of OA and are recruited from all over.

According to the original report, the series will include Sinestro. Therefore, it seems the Sinestro Corps will appear at some point too. But every villain needs a hero, right? Well, Latern is going to be focusing on several Green Lanterns.

Apparently, the series spans decades and uses several Earth-based Green Lanterns as their main cast. These include Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz and Alan Scott. The last name will be familiar to fans of the series Stargirl.

Alan Scott is the original Green Lantern and also a member of the Justice Society of America. However, his powers are magical and different from the other Green Lanterns.

Guy Gardner refuses to walk away from a fight and is the second person to gain the ring on Earth. This is the first time he’ll be part of a live-action Green Lantern story.

As for the other two, Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz, they are actually the newest Earth additions to the Green Lantern Corps. Jessica Cruz is based on Penelope Cruz and served as an accidental villain turned ally to the Justice League in her first appearance.

Meanwhile, Simon Baz starts out as a street racer, mechanic and car thief. But through the help of the Corps, he rises above his past and becomes a work partner to Jessica.

With the focus on Alan, Jessica and Simon it seems Lantern is going to be diverse and may even touch on some of the world’s issues with diversity. After all, Alan is part of the LGBT community while Jessica is a Latina woman and Simon is a Muslim-America.

Unfortunately, it looks like we won’t see Hal Jordan or John Stewart. It’s definitely interesting they aren’t using the two most famous Green Lanterns. Of course, maybe that’s why. This series seems to be more focused on giving the other characters a chance to shine.

Yet, there’s no sign of Kyle Rayner either. Unfortunately, Kyle always seems to be brushed aside. If there is more than one season, maybe we’ll see him become part of the Corps at some point.

Whatever happens, Lantern is aiming to be in production by the middle of next year. Therefore, it seems we’re still a long way away from any casting news.
