Director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 just surpassed the box office gross of the first film. This is good news for Guardians fans, and will almost guarantee Gunn’s return for the third film in the franchise. Although Gunn is a workhorse, and would certainly start on the script for the 3rd film immediately, he can’t. It seems that Gunn has to wait for the events of Avengers: Infinity War to play out to know the status of his characters.
In a recent interview, Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn told Fanfest.com that his brother has to wait for Avengers: Infinity War before he can begin writing the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3:
“I know that James is being a little bit more patient this time around. Partially because some of what happens with the Guardians is dependent on what happens with them in Infinity War. And even though my brother’s a producer on Infinity War, those movies aren’t finished yet so until we kind of see where everything lands there that’s going to have some bearing on what happens with the Guardians. So it’s a little bit of a wait and see but I’m sure there are a lot of ideas already in the works.”
Sean Gunn plays Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 &2, and also did the motion capture for Rocket Raccoon. Since January, S. Gunn has been on and off the set of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4. The film will shoot until at least the end of the year.
Peter Quill and his fellow Guardians are hired by a powerful alien race, the Sovereign, to protect their precious batteries from invaders. When it is discovered that Rocket has stolen the items they were sent to guard, the Sovereign dispatch their armada to search for vengeance. As the Guardians try to escape, the mystery of Peter’s parentage is revealed.
Avengers: Infinite War hits theaters in May 2018.
