Halloween 2021 Review #30 – ‘Ready or Not’

Ready or Not is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. If those names are familiar it’s because they’re the ones behind the new Scream movie. This is the second last movie in our 2021 October challenge. Since today is Halloween, I’ll be watching two movies instead of one.

Ready or Not stars Samara Weaving, Adam Brody, Andie MacDowell, Mark O’Brien and Henry Czerny.

After watching Samara in The Babysitter and The Babysitter: Killer Queen, it’s going to be interesting to watch as the final girl rather than the killer.

Samara Weaving plays Grace, a newly married woman. On the night of her wedding, she’s invited to play a game. When she picks the hide and seek card she thinks she’s playing a normal game.

However, she quickly realises she’s in a terrifying game of cat and mouse. To make matters worse, the people hunting her are her husband’s family as part of a family ritual.

Not knowing who’s on her side, Grace has to fight her way until sunrise.

Ready or Not is a fun ride. It’s got everything you’ll want in this kind of horror. It’s suspenseful, it’s scary and it’s funny. In a way, it reminds me of the original Scream where it is a horror but the comedy levels it out. That probably explains why the directors are helming the new Scream movie.

Like I’ve said above, this is the third horror movie I’ve watched with Samara Weaving in it this month. She plays two completely different characters in The Babysitter and Ready or Not. Yet, you forget she’s the villain in the former because she plays Grace so well.

This helps in making the audience root for her.

Ready or Not is one every horror movie will enjoy. It’s basically got a little bit of everything in it. It’s definitely one of my favourite movies from this month.
