Halloween 2021 Review #8 – ‘Halloween III: Season of the Witch’

Halloween III: Season of the Witch is the next movie in our October challenge. However, it also marks the countdown for the release of Halloween Kills. While the new movies aren’t connected to the previous entries, I’m watching all of the Halloween movies I’ve yet to see.

Of course, the point is completely moot for Season of the Witch. This is the only movie in the series that doesn’t feature Michael Myers. In fact, the series was originally going to be similar to the Twilight Zone.

Every year a new movie with different characters and villains would take center stage on Halloween.

After widely critical and fan reviews, Michael Myers returns. But that’s a story for tomorrow. For today, we’re looking at Season of the Witch, and if it was any good.

Season of the Witch begins with a man running from creepy men in suits. When he’s eventually killed, it brings his daughter to the scene. She teams up with a married Doctor and they track down the creator of Halloween masks. When they arrive at the small town, it’s like every other freaky town in a horror movie.

From there, more death awaits them, marriage vows are broken, and old Irish stereotypes are in abundance.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch has the makings of a good movie. Yet, ultimately it fails in doing anything substantial. Most of the ideas come from other movies that do it better. Don’t get me wrong, there’s certainly something positive.

An earworm that’ll remind you how many days it is until Halloween. People have warned me in the past about watching it, especially considering my love for the original two Halloween movies and the 2018 one.

Going into it I knew there’d be no Michael Myers. However, calling it the Season of the Witch made me think there would be a witch. Instead, it’s a businessman trying to take Halloween back to its pagan roots by using a part of Stonehenge to kill children.

All in all, Season of the Witch is nothing more than a good way to waste time. But it’s nothing to write home about, and speaks volumes to why the series needs Michael Myers.
