Is Marvel Hinting at the Coming of Annihilus on ‘Captain Marvel’ Website?

When the official website for Captain Marvel went live last week, it was a 90s flashback spectacular. The site is an instant trip down memory lane to the early days of the internet, but is something hidden in the site itself?

A cryptic link, sent out to press, led the entire world to the official website for Captain Marvel. A peculiar easter egg hides in the URL for the Captain Marvel website. Check out the link below:

Is there a major reference to the villain Annihilus hidden at the first part of the link? What does this mean for the greater MCU? The inclusion of his name hints at what is on the horizons for Marvel.

So, who is Annihilus? He is a classic Marvel villain who first appeared in Marel Comics’ Fantastic Four Annual #6. When members of the Fantastic Four venture into the Negative Zone seeking an element that can save Sue Storm’s life.

Annihilus sees their presence as a threat and plots an attack against the FF. He continues his transgressions against the team and other Earth-based heroes, as he attempts multiple invations on a number of dimensions.

His attacks never really take footing until a comic run called Annihilation. In the run, Annihilus brings a massive invasion force to Earth from the Negative Zone.

With his army, he manages to wipe out the planet Xander and defeats a large portion of the Nova Corps.

The threat becomes so large that even the Skrull and Kree armies, along with a number of Galactus’ heralds band together to defeat the villanous army.

Richard Rider and Phyla-Vell obtain the Quantum Bands, although the devastation cannot be undone.

Does this mean that the new secret looming threat in Avengers: Endgame is Annihilus? It is a risky move, seeing as how Annihilus has a bigger history with the Fantastic Four than the Avengers.

This might be an elaborate hint at the Disney/Fox merger. Twentieth Century Fox owns the Fantastic Four rights, and with the merger taking place, Disney and Marvel get those rights back.

Is Annihilus coming in Avengers 4. Does this mean that a Fantastic Four teaser/cameo is coming at the end of Endgame?
