Highlander tells the story of an immortal from the Scottish Highlands who has to fight the other immortals as “there can only be one.” The winner gains the knowledge of the universe. The conflict comes from Connor MacLeod, the Highlander, having to stop the immortal the Kurgan from gaining the knowledge or else he’ll use it for evil reasons.
Fans of non-linear storytelling will love Highlander as it changes time periods. It provides the origin of the Highlander while showcasing his present self trying to save the world. Highlander is like marmite, you’ll either going to love it or hate it. Yet, it’s the absurd over-the-top cheesiness of the script that has made it a cult classic.
It also features a soundtrack featuring several songs by the British Rock band Queen. These include Who Wants to Live Forever and a King of Magic. Interestingly enough, the former song is a creation for the movie after Brian May watched the love scene between two characters.
Much like its titular character, Highlander is a movie that will last forever.
