Review – Reality Games’ ‘Orphans’ Episode Four

Orphans episode four is the latest instalment in the interactive messenger mobile game from German developer Reality Games. It focuses on friends who go to an abandoned Orphanage to get footage for their social media channel. The player takes the role of a character who a group contacts after they find their number.

The German version of episodes four and five are already out. Those who want to play the fourth episode in French’ll have to wait a few more weeks until it’s available. While this review won’t have spoilers for Orphans episode four, there will be spoilers for the previous episodes. If you haven’t played them yet, don’t read further.

Furthermore, before we delve into the review, I want to be clear that even though I have a small voice role in this episode it won’t prejudice my feelings towards this episode. It was an exciting opportunity but I’ll still be honest about how I felt with this installment.

Episode Four

The last episode ends with Belial coming for Mika and their sibling. The gender you choose at the beginning of the game changes Mika and their sibling’s gender. For my playthrough with a male main character Mika’s a woman and she has a sister. Meanwhile, if your MC is a woman Mika will be a man and will have a brother.

Meanwhile, Sandy is dealing with the ramifications of Jarek’s possession and Samuel and Ina are trapped with the cult that wants to resurrect the dangerous Demon. The episode begins by showing us what happens with these plot threads while also providing some events that’ll make longtime fans happy.

While it feels shorter than the other episodes, Orphans episode four pushes the story without settling for paddling and random side stories. Every interaction with the other characters is needed to further the plot, as well as to expand the world-building. I’m being intentionally vague and there’s a good reason for that. Mostly anything I want to talk about is technically a spoiler.

However, I can say there is one thing that’s in the other episodes that unfortunately doesn’t seem to be in this one. It could be I didn’t make the right choice but if not, I was sad we didn’t get to veer off for a little while for some fun with certain people. Of course, that doesn’t change my feelings on this particular instalment. With how it ends, the last two episodes can only become more explosive.

Don’t take my vagueness as disliking the episode. If anything, I enjoyed it a lot, but compared to the other episodes there’s so much going on literally everything is a spoiler. It’ll be a long wait for the next episode, and one I’ll be filling by playing the game from the beginning. Until then, watch out for that spirit behind you.

Orphans episode four is available on iOS and Google Play.
