IT: Chapter Two wowed audiences at SDCC this year with an impressive amount of new stuff from the movie. (It helps that there wasn’t much released before the convention.) The sequel aims to be darker and more true to the novel.

IT: Chapter Two tackles the second half of the book, where we see all of the child characters all grown up. Although most of them are older, they haven’t necessarily gotten over the fear of the creature known as Pennywise.

In an interview with Collider, director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti spoke about the biggest writing challenges they faced during production and what challenges the writers had when developing the script. Muschietti says:

The challenge of making a second part, in terms of script, was basically keeping the tension all the time, condensing all the events that happened in this timeline into almost like a real-time journey.

So, we had to interlace some of the events, or connect some events. In the book, they’re a little looser – and staying true to the emotion of that section, and also turn the screws of tension here and there, and also create events that make things more difficult.

Create obstacles and diversion and forces that are not necessarily in the book.

IT: Chapter Two stars Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, and James McAvoy. Check out the trailer below:

The new film adapts the other half of the book. The second half of the book involves the adult versions of the characters . They are portrayed by Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, and James McAvoy.
