It appears that it’s not just the fans who have an issue with the final cut of DC’s Justice League. According to recent statements from cinematographer Fabian Wagner, watching the final cut made him cry.

Wagner worked as the director of photography for the film with director Zack Snyder, but couldn’t return to the film for the Joss Whedon reshoots due to conflicts with another project.

Wagner will not comment on how much of Snyder’s vision made the final cut. In a recent conversation with ComicBook Debate (via CBM) he was asked if he saw the final film, and he said “I have, unfortunately.” He had this to say about the differences between the version he shot, and the final cut:

“It’s really hard to say because I was watching it and I think I was crying all the way through. So it’s hard for me to say exactly how much was changed, but a lot was changed.

It looked very different. It’s sad for me because I loved working with Zack; I had the best time of my life.

There were many other things on that movie that made it so good apart from the fact that I was working with Zack and the whole gang. I met my wife on that job. There [were] a lot of other things.

It was just a great shoot, and so it was a shame to see the film the way it turned out to be. You can just see, if you watched the first trailers you can see how the film should have looked and how the film did look when we were shooting it.”

It is sad when you hear statements from insiders about the changes made to the film, but this will just serve as fuel for the #ReleasetheSnydercut movement.

I went back and watched the first two trailers. Not much is different, other than the color of the sky for the finale. In Snyder’s original vision, the sky was dark and murky. In the final cut, the sky was reddish-orange.

It’s a guarantee that this was change so that the audience could differentiate between the background and the characters in the forground. In it’s original vision, the sky looks like its a problem.

With time constraints and atudio breathing down his back, I can see why Whedon made the decisions he did.
