It’s official—production on the live-action Voltron movie has wrapped, bringing fans one step closer to seeing the iconic robot roar to life on the big screen. After years in development limbo and multiple studios circling the project, the giant robot saga is finally real—and it’s packing serious star power.

The film, helmed by Red Notice director Rawson Marshall Thurber, finished principal photography in April 2025 after shooting in Queensland, Australia. The working title during production was Space Mouse, a cheeky nod that long-time fans will recognize as a reference to one of the original series’ lesser-known elements.

The project is backed by Amazon MGM Studios and boasts a creative team clearly invested in delivering a grounded, cinematic take on the classic property.

Henry Cavill headlines the cast, joined by Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, John Harlan Kim, Alba Baptista, Samson Kayo, and newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye. The film’s script is a collaborative effort between Thurber and Ellen Shanman, with cinematographer Markus Förderer handling visuals.

The movie’s produced in partnership with A Bad Version Production, Mandeville Films, Hidden Pictures, and World Events Productions. World Events Productions’ the original rights holder of the American Voltron franchise.

The original adapted from Japan’s Beast King GoLion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV, and a 1980s cartoon, Voltron follows five pilots who each control a robotic lion. Together, they combine to form Voltron, a towering warrior tasked with defending the universe from evil forces.

The series was a staple of after-school programming for a generation. Its nostalgic pull is part of what makes this adaptation so anticipated.
