Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ Going Forward After 2020

Star Wars Rogue One, Disney/ Lucasfilm

Last week at the Goldman Sachs convention, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger talked about the future of the Star Wars universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond what is already known to the public. His focus was geared more towards Star Wars, and he has a few surprises.

According to Iger, the Star Wars schedule is continuing as previously planned. One film hits us every year starting with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. If the schedule stays the same, we will get a film that expands the universe and films that continue the Rey-Finn-Skywalker saga alternating until 2020. Iger says that talks have started about going further than that:

“I had a meeting yesterday with Kathy Kennedy and we mapped out – well, we reviewed – the ‘Star Wars’ plans that we have until 2020. We have movies in development for Star Wars ’til then, and we started talking about what we’re going to do in 2021 and beyond.

We had a similar meeting with Marvel a week-and-a-half ago to plot (those films) out, where we’ve got movies in either development or production – some nearing completion – through the end of this decade. (There) we too are beginning to talk about what do we do the next decade, and so on.”

Disney doesn’t shoot from the hip, when it comes to film schedule. They want to make sure that every story has a plan, and not just with Star Wars, but with Marvel as well. The Star Wars schedule through 2020 is as follows:

He gave no word about where the SW universe would take us beyond 2020, but with a schedule as juicy as this, I don’t doubt the current course one bit. I am excited to see the Young Han Solo film, as well as a Boba Fett film. There are rumors that Yoda may eventually get his own film, but no confirmation has come as of the writing of this article.
