Evangeline Lily is back as Hope van Dyne in Ant-Man and the Wasp, which will reunite her with co-star Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), ultimately making her Marvel’s newest hero. There was plans to include The Wasp in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but director Joss Whedon couldn’t find the right balance for the character to have a prominent enough role. She was almost in Captain America: Civil War, but her debut needed to be bigger. With the film already having Spider-Man and Black Panther, there just wasn’t enough room for The Wasp.
Marvel decided that the best place to give The Wasp the big debut she needs was in Ant-Man 2. The film will begin production this summer, and it looks like Marvel intends to have some big reveals at this years’ D23 in Anaheim, California. Stay tuned for D23 updates.
Forced out of his own company by former protégé Darren Cross, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) recruits the talents of Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), a master thief just released from prison. Lang becomes Ant-Man, trained by Pym and armed with a suit that allows him to shrink in size, possess superhuman strength and control an army of ants. The miniature hero must use his new skills to prevent Cross, also known as Yellowjacket, from perfecting the same technology and using it as a weapon for evil.
