Microsoft announces they’re pushing the release date for Crackdown 3 back until Spring of 2018. The original release date for the game was set for November 7, 2017, but the developer is now eyeing a Spring 2018 launch date.

According to Microsoft Studios Publishing GM Shannon Loftis, this setback is happening to give the development teams Reagent Games, Sumo Digital and Cloudgine the time to release the game without any problems. In an interview with Polygon, Loftis says:

“We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date. However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time.

Crackdown 3 is a hugely ambitious game and we want to ensure we deliver the right experiences all the way through every part of the game, whether that’s campaign, co-op multiplayer or our competitive multiplayer mode, Wrecking Zone. Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that.

Among other items, we are taking the extra time to focus on the visual polish so gamers can feel completely immersed in a living world. We want them to really feel the larger-than life enemies as they’re exploring the expansive open world, combatting crime and collecting orbs.”

This is a stance that is practically unheard of today, with games repeatedly releasing with huge flaws. A few examples of this are games like Half-Life 2, Battlefield 4, Halo: Masterchief Collection, the coveted Batman: Arkham KnightThere’s an even a big issue with games launching unfinished. This gives the developers a chance to fix the game before too many gamers get their hands on a copy. But this is just a bad business practice.

This comes back to bite many studios in sales and reviews. How many players are you willing to sacrifice, just to start the money flow? Just get the game right, and then launch it. I applaud you Microsoft. Pushing the launch date of Crackdown 3 back will allow the bugs to be sorted out. This will give gamers a better experience with the game.

Originally launching with Microsoft’s new 4K system Xbox One X, fans will have to wait for Crackdown 3.
