Netflix axes its live-action Resident Evil series after just one season on the streaming giant.
The first season of the show had a few good moments but fell relatively flat overall. The series had a number of awkward transitions, attempting to tell a compelling ‘new’ story involving established characters in the game franchise.
Resident Evil becomes yet another example of a series that would’ve served its core fanbase better by leaning closer to the game storyline, or rather any one of them. In a common recurring move, the studio and production felt that the series could redefine the franchise, and instead, it sinks it.
The first season of the show premiered on July 14 and immediately received horrible reviews. A quick browse through review and reaction boards will cite the show as unwatchable and boring after just two episodes.
Resident Evil starred Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, Paola Nunez and Lance Reddick.
The eight-episode series dropped in the wake of a disappointing theatrical release for the feature film Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City which made just $42 million off a $25 million budget.
The Capcom game franchise continues to stand as one of the best franchises in gaming. The franchise to date has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. The films grabbed $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. That’s including the Milla Jovovich movies.
The franchise needed a better vision in the series. The plot was weak, the acting was questionable, and there weren’t enough monsters to keep fans interested.
