‘New Mutants’ Brings True Horror to the X-Men Universe

It’s been two long years since the first trailer for The New Mutants hit the internet. The Josh Boone-led X-Men spin-off film survived the Disney/ Twentieth Century Fox buyout, and still looks frightening as hell.

Check out the second trailer below:

Rumors ran wild that when Marvel took over the X-Men that the film would get scrapped, but that couldn’t be further from he truth. Marvel chief Kevin Feige saw the film and told Boone to not touch a thing.

This is a good sign for a film shelved for two years waiting for the final buyout contracts to be signed. The New Mutants follows a group of young gifted people incarcerated in an psychiatric hospital. They soon find out things aren’t as they seem.

The main protagonist of the film will be Demon Bear, and the trailer shows us the first glimpse of the character. In the comics, Demon Bear is created after the parents of Danielle Moonstar mutated genetically and trapped inside of the creature.

Does this mean that fans might get an origin story for the villain as well? It is a possibility, although Marvel tends to shy away from big origin tales.

Check out the official synopsis below:

“Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves.”

The VFX budget got a bit of a boost, but Boone promised his original film is intact. Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, Henry Zaga and Alice Braga.
