The Suicide Squad was released back in August and introduced a host of new characters to the DC cinematic universe. One of those characters is Christopher Smith, also known as Peacemaker. Where Black Adam is played by one former WWE wrestler, Peacemaker is played by another. It’s John Cena who steps into the role.
In The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker shows his true colors. He’s a man who will do anything to achieve peace, even if it means killing children or his allies. At the 2021 DC FanDome, James Gunn and the cast of Peacemaker gathered to release an official teaser of the HBO Max series.
Take a look at it below:
Also returning from The Suicide Squad is Jennifer Holland and Steve Agee as Emilia Harcourt and John Economos. Joining them are Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Freddie Stroma and Chukwudi Iwuji. Respectively, they’re playing Leota Adebayo, Auggie Smith, Vigilante and Clemson Murn.
From the trailer, at least five of them are teaming up with Peacemaker. Meanwhile, the other, Robert Patrick, is playing Peacemaker’s father. It seems he is the reason for the character being the way he is. We only see little of him, but Auggie appears to be toxic to his son.
Yet, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for Peacemaker. In a fun turn of events, that light is none other than a bald eagle. Seeing John Cena smile as he’s hugged by an eagle is hilarious. It’s also nothing short of surprising when it comes to the mind of James Gunn.
Peacemaker is delving into the life of the former Suicide Squad member. While the character becoming a hero doesn’t seem his path, there’s at least a chance he’ll soften up. The trailer’s already hinting at a redemptive arc, even if it’s only by making him slightly better. With that, it’ll be interesting to see more of his life.
The one question I’ve got from the trailer is where’s Amanda Waller? The last we saw of her she was recovering from her attack and makes Harcourt and Economos look after Peacemaker. Whether she appears in the series is unknown, but I for one hope there’s at least a small cameo.
This is a question we won’t know the answer to until the series airs on the 14th of January 2022. Viewers inside of the US will be able to view it on HBO Max.
