Multi time Academy award winner Meryl Streep probably will not be receiving a White House invite anytime soon. Seems the new president-elect Donald Trump isn’t much of a fan of Ms. Streep. It is doubtful Ms. Streep will lose any amount of sleep however. Streep had previously been critical of Mr. Trump and his conduct during the previous presidential campaign. Not one to let anything go, Trump lobbed a grenade back at Streep, labeling her as overrated.
Whether this is a sign of things to come, no one can say. President Trump’s thin skin, when it comes to criticism was nowhere more evident than when Streep expressed her concerns about Trump’s conduct. Ms. Streep was on hand at the Golden Globes to accept the Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award. Though she launched a scathing attack on the president-elect, Streep would not mention Trump by name. From Variety, Streep’s quote:
““It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back,”It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life.”
Trump to Twitter
Keeping in line with his previous attacks, Trump took to his Twitter account to publicly blast Streep. Twitter has been the soapbox the president-elect has utilized to conduct these somewhat juvenile broadsides against his opponents. Trump’s response followed inline with previous attacks. He dismissed Streep as a “Hillary lover.” Trump went on to claim that he wasn’t surprised by the attack. According to the NY Times, that these were “liberal movie people.” This flew in the face of the actual event where criticism was actually subdued, save for Streep.
