Princess Mononoke is one of the best animated films ever made, and Miyazaki’s storytelling is nothing short of magical. The characters in this fantasy epic are ultra-realistic. They aren’t the sugar-coated animals from the Disney films you might be used to. Many well-known Hollywood actors and actresses gave their voices to the English dubbed version. Minnie Driver, Billy Bob Thorton, Claire Danes, Billy Crudup, Gillian Anderson, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and even Keith David all contributed to the film.
Check out the official press announcement:
On behalf of GKIDS, we are excited to announce the studio’s partnership with Fathom Events to bring PRINCESS MONONOKE, the classic animated film from groundbreaking writer/director Hayao Miyazaki and the legendary Studio Ghibli, to U.S. theaters for two days only: Thursday, January 5th at 7PM and Monday, January 9th at 7PM (local time both dates).
The English-dubbed version features the vocal talents of: Gillian Anderson, Billy Crudup, Claire Danes, Minnie Driver, Jada Pinkett-Smith, and Billy Bob Thornton.“Twenty years after its release, ‘Princess Mononoke’ remains an undisputed animated triumph. It’s one of the most thrilling adventures ever produced,” said GKIDS’ President Eric Beckman. “Following the great success of ‘Spirited Away’ returning to theaters, we are excited to present ‘Princess Mononoke’ in a theatrical setting to fans both old and new. It’s also a fitting way to celebrate Miyazaki’s birthday as we remind ourselves of the cinematic gifts he has given audiences over the years.”In addition to the feature content, movie audiences will view the never-before-released in North America 1995 Miyazaki-directed music video by the Japanese rock duo Chage & Aska for their song “On Your Mark.”
