Train Fight (Spider-Man 2)
Spider-Man 2’s standout set-piece sees the web-slinger fighting Doctor Octopus atop a high-speed train. It’s a thrilling edge-of-your-seat action scene.
Raimi uses all the tools in his tool box to craft an engaging fight sequence that has us rooting for our hero. Spidey’s always on his back foot, which makes the scene tense and exciting.
Of all the action scenes we’ve had featuring the Marvel wall-crawler, this one stands out from the rest of the pack.
Ultron & Vision (Avengers: Age of Ultron)
One of the closing scenes of Avengers: Age of Ultron features a final conversation between the big bad and his carnival mirror image. Ultron and Vision; two sides of the same coin. Their moralities clash as they discuss their own philosophical views of humanity in this beautifully written duologue.
Whedon excels himself; Vision’s closing one-liner is genius. The scene is short and doesn’t overstay its welcome, but it’s a strong provocative display that features some of the best character interaction ever seen in a Marvel movie.
The scene is beautiful by itself, and the true levity of the moment becomes evident when you know of the turmoil happening behind the scenes. This scene is Whedon making a stand to the corporate machine, churning out mindless sequels for a profit, saying superhero films can be bigger and better than that.
