Reeves and Moss Reteam for ‘Matrix 4’

The rumors are official, The Matrix 4 was greenlit by Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. There is no early indication as to where the film will fall in the franchise timeline.

Most notably, Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss (Neo and Trinity respectively) will reprise their roles in M4. Cowriter/co-director Lana Wachowski also returns to head The Matrix 4 without the help of her sibling. Also cowriting the script are Aleksander Hemon and David Mitchell.

Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman, Toby Emmerich, made a statement on Tuesday, saying:

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary – a singular and original creative filmmaker – and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

Lana Wachowski went on to say:

“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

Wachowski will write, direct, and produce the film, along with producer Grant Hill. A shooting star date eyes an early 2020 date.

The previous 3 installments in The Matrix franchise were a delight, and revolutionized the filming industry with their unique storyline and unique shooting techniques.

Lana and her sister Lilly wrote and directed all three previous Matrix films, grossing more than $1.6 billion in box office revenue.
