‘Resident Evil’ Director Talks Potential Sequel Ideas

The Resident Evil game franchise has a die-hard fanbase. While the best game in the franchise is an article of contention amongst supporters, the fourth game sits at the top of most players lists.

The last few Village titles are also popular installments, and refresh the franchise, gaining new players with each release.

It’s no surprise that the director fo Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Johannes Roberts says that the follow-up film will lean heavily on the fourth game in the franchise. Roberts tells SFX:

“I am obsessed with the fourth game. I could very much see that becoming part of the next installment. There’s a lot of interesting lore and tiny details that we have brought into this movie, but would be amazing to expand on.

There are characters that we didn’t use in this game that we would love to expand upon in the next movie. There’s also a different side of Resident Evil with Village and Resident Evil 7, where it’s a much darker, more horrific world. It would be great to look into that side of things as well.

There’s definitely been conversations. We’ve really created some iconic characters with Chris, Claire, Wesker, and Leon. Hopefully, it’s the beginning of a whole new chapter.”

Roberts and crew adapted the plots of the first two games in the franchise for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. The film also includes a ton of easter eggs and callbacks for viewers to drool over.

The trailer reveals the inclusions of Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy, but also features deep-cut characters like Code Veronica’s Ashford twins. Sony dropped a new trailer for the upcoming film you can check out below.
