Review – Millarworld’s ‘Nemesis Reloaded #2′

Nemesis Reloaded #2 is the next issue in the soft reboot of Millarworld’s infamous villain. Mark Millar writes it while the art is from Jorge Jiménez. Nemesis is a wealthy supervillain who can be seen as an evil Batman. However, he’s so much more than just that. He is sadistic, cunning and the last person you’d want to meet.

In the previous issue, we were re-introduced to Nemesis. He was taking over L.A.’s crime scene and taking possession of every henchman he could find. It doesn’t take long before the city turns upside down. Furthermore, to make matters worse, a bounty is put on the head of every police officer. All the citizens need to do is bring Nemesis a fallen officer’s badge, and he’ll pay them.

Nemesis Reloaded #2 opens with the aftermath of issue 1’s cliffhanger. The newly appointed Police Chief is investigating a crime scene with dead officers. It hasn’t taken long for the city to fall. Even teenagers are collecting the bounty. Meanwhile, we get a better understanding of who Nemesis is. This issue is all about his origins and they’re a messed up version of Bruce Wayne’s.

However, it’s still different enough in its own right. This is a person who’s driven by violent vengeance and he doesn’t care who gets in his way. This issue only serves to double down on this. It’s dark and disturbing and yet there’s a heart to it that almost makes you root for the supervillain.

The art by Jorge Jiménez is as vicious and violent as the character itself. There are a few panels at the beginning of the issue that will make you unnerved. It doesn’t stop there as the art conveys Nemesis’ origin’s brutality well.
