Prodigy is a comic book series by Mark Millar and Rafael Albuquerque. Matteo Buggani provides the art for this volume while Image Comics publishes the series. It tells the story of Edison Crane, one of the smartest men alive who loves to break records.
Through the last two volumes, he comes across others who are nearly as smart as he is. However, they all have flaws he’s able to use against them to win the day.
Prodigy: The Icarus Society revolves around a secret society of geniuses looking for a hidden city. It goes by many names but they call it Shangri-La. In the previous issue, Edison finds it, along with the villains forcing him to help. He’s welcomed by the people and finds they’re some of the most ruthless people in history.
However, thanks to an invention, they’re no longer vicious or angry. Unfortunately for them, a militia is on its way to destroy them.
Prodigy: The Icarus Society #5 opens up with Edison talking to the leader of Shangri-La. She wants to know what drives him. This is interrupted by the militia descending on the place. Everything that comes after is spoilers. All I’ll say is, this is the end of this volume.
Everything you’ve been reading leads to this. Edison faces his toughest challenge yet. Let’s not forget he has a bomb inside of him.
Is there anything he can do to save the people of Shangri-La?
The issue also delves into more of Edison’s psyche. We get to know the person he is and why he is that way. It adds more depth to the character and makes me excited to see what comes next.
Prodigy: The Icarus Society #5 is a thrilling ride. It puts you through a rollercoaster that ultimately ends in an interesting conclusion. This is another win for the Millarworld label. The art from Matteo Buggani complements the story well. It’s hard to talk about art without spoiling anything.
So, all I’ll say is if this is there’s a new artist for the next volume, they’ll have big shoes to fill.
