Review: Millarworld’s ‘The Magic Order Vol 3 #5’

The Magic Order Vol 3 #5 is the latest issue in the Image comic series created by Mark Millar and Olivier Coipel. The series is currently in its third volume. If you’ve missed the first two volumes, they’re available to purchase online, but more importantly, from your local comic book store. You can find my reviews for the second volume here.

The Magic Order revolves around a group of magic wielders who protect the world from dangerous threats. It also doesn’t shy away from tackling heavy subjects. The story centres around the family who lead The Magic Order – the Moonstones. In particular, it’s the rebel daughter Cordelia whose usually more of a focus.

Let’s see what’s in store in The Magic Order Vol 3 #5.

The issue picks up where the last stopped. Rosie is under attack by Sanchez, someone she thought she could trust. He wants to kill her before she grows into the monster he believes she’ll become. Luckily for her, she’s got a few tricks up her sleeves. Through this plot, we experience more of the universe’s version of the multiverse. There’s also a spell that seems evil. However, I don’t blame the person who uses it and who they use it on. Many would do the same.

Meanwhile, Cordelia has a bad feeling she’s been keeping an eye on the wrong person. While thinking Sammy Liu is using magic for personal gain, there’s another doing worse. In typical The Magic Order fashion, Cordelia needs to make an impossible choice. Nothing is ever as easy as it should be for her. Hopefully, one day, she’ll catch a break.

Unfortunately, The Magic Order Vol 3 #5 is the penultimate issue of this volume. There are still a few loose threads to wrap up. It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the final issue. Though, let’s hope, it’s only the final issue of this volume and not the series. I always eagerly await the next chapter of The Magic Order.

Gigi Cavengo continues to excel as you can see from the panels above. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Wait until you see what he has in store for you.

The Magic Order Vol 3 #5 releases Wednesday 23rd November.
