The Ambassadors #2 is the next issue in the newest series from Millarworld. Mark Millar pens the script while Karl Kerschl provides the breathtaking art for this issue. The Ambassadors is about a scientist who cracks the code for superpowers. However, rather than giving the powers to a Government or the highest bidder, she promises to give them to six people with a good heart.
While this review is spoiler-free for the newest issue, there will be big spoilers about the last issue. Therefore, if you haven’t read it, don’t read on.
The first issue spent time introducing us to the woman responsible for the breakthrough. Doctor Choon-He Chung performs a special presentation where she unveils her new powers. Of course, that’s not all that happens. The original Choon-He was in prison after being set up by her ex-husband. She abandons her old body and introduces the world to her new host complete with superpowers.
The Ambassadors #2 shifts focus onto one of the candidates. The issue centres on Binnu Bhatia, an Indian man who sacrificed his life to save the innocent. Saying anything else about him would be spoiling the story. Moreover, we follow his journey to becoming a superhero while he works out what type of civilian life he needs in order to stay in the shadows.
Meanwhile, revelations about his life while in a coma come to light. This is a set-up issue for Binnu but it doesn’t waste a page. It’s about him and it’s pulling us along for the ride so we care for this person. Where he goes next we’ll need to wait and see.
However, we know that the combination of writing and art is beautiful. Karl Kerschl’s art next to Mark Millar’s writing recreates something special. It seems like The Ambassadors is going to be a big one.
