Six Found-Footage Horror Movies to Watch in October

Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity is possibly one of the biggest found-footage franchises. While some of its sequels aren’t great or suffer from a lack of genuine scars, the original still holds up. It takes cues from The Blair Witch Project. The cast is relatively unknowns who play characters with their own names.

Here’s the official synopsis:

After a young, middle class couple moves into a suburban ‘starter’ tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep. Or try to.

Paranormal Activity takes found-footage to new heights through modern concepts. It uses CCTV in the house to capture the ghostly goings-on. Through this, it fools the audience into believing they’re watching a documentary.

The fear only increases because of it. Moreover, it’s through a slow burn that makes the third act horrifying. There are specific moments in Paranormal Activity where it seems cheap tricks will be employed… and then nothing happens.

Even though its sequels never live-up to the original, Paranormal Activity’s final sequence will leave you terrified for year to come.
