Six Found-Footage Horror Movies to Watch in October

What We Do in the Shadows

Taika Waititi is known for his breakout role as Korg in Thor: Ragnarok. Note: he also directed the movie. However, before he came to Marvel, Taika co-directed a mockumentary about vampires with Jemaine Clement. It’s called What We Do in the Shadows.

The official synopsis is as follows:

Follow the lives of Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) – three flatmates who are just trying to get by and overcome life’s obstacles-like being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood.

Hundreds of years old, the vampires are finding that beyond sunlight catastrophes, hitting the main artery, and not being able to get a sense of their wardrobe without a reflection-modern society has them struggling with the mundane like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts.

Furthermore to the above, there’s a conflict between vampires and another mythological group. These are the werewolves, led by funnyman Rhys Darby. He has one of the best quotes whenever his wolfpack swears. However, you’ll have to watch it to find out for yourself.

The success of the movie spun-off into a TV series. Jemaine is its showrunner and it explores the American side of the vampires. There are cameos from the movie in the TV series every so often.

What We Do in the Shadows is a breath of fresh air after the overabundance of vampires in recent years.

Next: Paranormal Activity
