‘Spider-Man’: Ideas for Insomniac’s Gaming Universe

Spider-Woman

When talking about Spider-Woman, most people think of Jessica Drew. However, there’s another who is popular but is known by other names. Ghost-Spider, aka Spider-Gwen, is an alternate universe version of Gwen Stacy.

In the main timeline, Gwen is a love interest of Peter Parker who sadly dies during a confrontation with the Green Goblin. But on Earth-65, Gwen watches her best friend, Peter Parker, die and is viewed as his murderer.

Although, Peter dies as he tries to create an experiment that gives him powers like Gwen.

Earth-65’s Gwen is also a member of a band. It would make for interesting storytelling if players could move between her civilian life and alter-ego. A choice-based game as she tries to conceal her identity to her bandmates would be exciting.

The fun thing about using Gwen is her enemies. Earth-65’s version of Matt Murdock is the new Kingpin and makes it his goal to drag Gwen down to his level.

This mirrors the first Spider-Man game but puts an alternate spin on it with a different Kingpin.

Moreover, it opens up a fun world where characters from the original timeline are turned on their head. Is there a Miles Morales? Does Mary-Jane Watson exist? Could Otto Octavius be Olivia like Into the Spider-verse? It’s an intriguing prospect that would whet the appetite of fans.

It also helps that Gwen Stacy is going through a resurgence thanks to this new version of her, and her appearance in Into the Spider-verse.

If Insomniac wants to take on another Spider character then Gwen Stacy gives them an opportunity to twist every character from the original mythos.

Next – Spider-Verse
