Spider-Man: Far From Home is the character’s second solo movie in the Sony and Marvel Entertainment Studios partnership. It stars Tom Holland as the titular hero in his fifth outing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The movie is the bookend of the Infinity Saga, which culminated in the previous movie Avengers: Endgame. After the previous movie audiences had plenty of questions of how Marvel would deal with the fallout and Far from Home helps to answer some of those questions.
In Spider-Man: Far From Home Peter Parker doesn’t want to be about that superhero life for now. He’s going on a Science trip with his school and all he wants it to ask out the girl he likes.
This, of course, is Michelle Jones (Zendaya), the MCU’s answer to Mary-Jane Watson. Despite the controversy around her casting, Zendaya has shown she is fantastic in the role. Furthermore, this movie highlights how great both she and the character are, including her chemistry with Tom Holland’s Peter.
As seen in the trailers, poor Peter’s school trip is hijacked by Super-Spy Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). A terrible collection of beings known as The Elementals are trying to destroy the Earth and only Spider-Man can save them.
Well, Spider-Man and a new Hero from another Earth known as Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Teaming-up they will have to stop the Elementals before they destroy the Earth.
The supporting cast of Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), Betty Brant (Angourie Rice) & Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) help to show Peter’s dual identities while he tries to figure out who he is.
It’s his relationships with those around them that make Peter Parker stand out from the other Superheroes and this portrayal isn’t any different. In fact, this could be the most accurate portrayal in a live-action Spider-Man movie.
Spider-Man: Far From Home shows a Spider-Man who is able to create his own gadgets, suits, and other trinkets. In addition, this brings to life a Spider-Man edging closer to his Comic Book counterpart.
The Direction from Jon Watts and the homages to the movies of John Hughes provide the perfect background to Peter’s struggle. Through this, a coming of age story unlike no other is told.
After the dramatic events of Avengers: Endgame, this movie is both a palette cleanser and just as gut-wrenching. While the humor is aplenty, with most of the jokes serving a purpose rather, there is also heart.
The heart especially stems from Peter’s struggle to cope with the death of his mentor. Moreover Tom Holland and Jake Gyllenhaal play off the other well and show a budding relationship similar to that of Peter and Tony.
While most people will, there are those who forget about the credits scenes. Therefore I implore it’s advisory to stay for both credit scenes as you will not want to miss them.
Spider-Man: Far From Home brings a fresh take on the character while pushing him forward in his relationships and goals. However, this is only the beginning for Holland’s Spider-Man and let’s hope it doesn’t stop any time soon.
Spider-Man: Far From Home‘s playing in theatres across the world now.
