Sony’s soon-to-be hit movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse isn’t even in theaters yet, but a healthy helping of good reviews and a $35-40 million projected opening weekend have the studio eyeing a sequel and more.
Producer Amy Pascal tells Vanity Fair that Sony will move forward on sequels and a spin-off sooner rather than later. The first film Sony is leaning towards is a direct sequel involving more of Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld).

The sequel will focus on the romance between Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen. It will lead to a Spider-Women spin-off focusing on Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon (Silk), and Jessica Drew (Spider-Woman). Bek Smith will pen that script.
Joaquim Dos Santos (Avatar: The Last Airbender, Voltron) will head the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, with David Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984, Zombieland 2) at the helm.
