Summer of Josh Brolin Continues with ‘The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter’

Vice Principals co-creator Jody Hills’ newest film, a comedic father/son buddy picture, called The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter, debuted its trailer. Destined for Netflix July 6th, the film stars Josh Brolin as the deer hunter. He plans a hunting trip to bond with his son. Brolin’s character films his adventures, one presumes for a TV show.

Danny McBride, co-stars as Brolin’s sidekick cameraman, also co-wrote the screenplay and Montana Jordan plays his son.

The busy Josh Brolin appears in his fourth theatrical release. Cinema Blend notes:

” the 2018 summer movie season, I have no doubt it will be unofficially be referred to as the Summer of Brolin. First Josh Brolin brought Thanos to the spotlight in Avengers: Infinity War, then he played Cable in Deadpool 2, and starting tomorrow, he can be seen reprising Matt Graver in Sicario: Day of the Soldado. That does it for the actor’s theatrical offerings this year, but the Summer of Brolin isn’t quite done yet.

As for The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter itself,  Cinema Blend noted:

The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter is a smaller scale movie emphasizing family and low-key humorous moments, arguably making it a better fit for Netflix than if it had gone with the usual theatrical release. Fun fact, this is also the latest collaboration between Danny McBride and director Jody Hill, the two of them previously working together on Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals. But for Brolin, this is his last opportunity to make an impact on 2018, and you won’t even need to leave the comfort of your own home to see how he does.

Not Buying It?

Movie Web had this to say –

” There is a lot of situational humor, such as one might expect with something cut from this particular cloth. Some of the jokes fall a bit flat, but maybe they just need a little more context? There also appears to be a good deal of heart, blended with some relatively mild action and adventure. This movie may not be reinventing the wheel, but the whole father and son thing never really wears thin. At least not when it’s done well.”

The film looks brilliant, and could gain a cult following on Netflix. Judge for yourself July 6th, when The Legacy of a Whitetail Deer Hunter hits Netflix.
