The First Teaser Trailer For Disney’s Live-Action ‘Aladdin’

The first teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action Aladdin is here, and it looks really great. Check out the trailer below:

This isn’t your normal happy-genie 1990s Aladdin. This film looks to be majestic and wonderful. This bonafide teaser shows us only a few glimpses from the film: the cave, Iago, and Ali Ababwa  himself. Not a hint of the Genie (Will Smith), Jafar, or even Jasmine. (Correction: Jafar is in the trailer, see image below.)

The film is adapted from a screenplay by John August, and aims to be part musical, just like the original animated film. Alan Menken provides the score, with new recordings of the original songs he wrote, along with Ashman & Rice. He also wrote two entirely new songs with La La Land songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The only question mark comes in the way of casting Wil Smith as Genie. Robin Williams quick-witted genie from the animated film is a hard act to follow. Smith’s casting seems to indicate that this new Genie will not be as humorous as the Genie we all know and love.

Aladdin stars Will Smith as the Genie, Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Princess Jasmin, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, Navid Negahban as the Sultan, Nasim Pedrad as handmaiden Dalia, Billy Magnussen as Prince Anders, and Numan Acar as palace guards head Hakim.

Aladdin hits theaters on May 24, 2019.
