‘The Last of Us 2’ Scores Victory at The Game Awards

The Last of Us Part 2 is one of the most controversial games to come to consoles. There are many reasons why different people don’t like it. Some reasons range from seeing the death of their favorite character while others are for less noble reasons.

However, that didn’t stop it from selling four million copies in its first week of release. Nor did it stop the acclaim from critics and the Golden Joysticks Awards where it picked up the game of the year.

Gamers set their eyes on The Game Awards on December 10. They eagerly awaited to find out which games were picking up the coveted awards and who would take home the game of the year. Out of the 30 categories, Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 gained seven awards.

These wins include best game direction, best narrative, best audio design, best innovation in accessibility and best action/adventure game. Laura Bailey who voices Abby in the game won best performance.

She can currently be heard in Square Enix’s Avengers voicing Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow.

The seventh award they won came as a surprise to some. Going against Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Ghost of Tsushima, Hades and Animal Crossing New Horizons victory seemed out of its grasp.

Yet it was The Last of Us Part 2 who took home the coveted game of the year award. In a year that has seen the cast and crew be bullied and harassed on social media by fans who can’t accept the game’s story or its characterisation, it’s nice to see their work paying off in another way.

The Last of Us Part II is available on Playstation now.
