(500) Days of Summer (2009)
#1 on this list is a bit personal to me. This movie has gotten me through a bad break-up, and is (by far) my favorite break-up movie. It held everything that I needed to see and hear to finally let someone go. This is the biggest step in getting over an ex. In (500) Days of Summer Zooey Deschanel takes Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s heart and demolishes it. It wouldn’t surprise me if she didn’t spit on it on the way out of the door as well. You can forgive Marc Webb for directing the Amazing Spider-Man films after seeing the way that he handled (500) Days of Summer. This is a bit of a rom-com, but it is a tale that takes a hopeless romantic and and breaks his heart into a million pieces.
You may not always feel that there is light on the other side of the tunnel, but there always is. In (500) Days of Summer Tom goes through one hell of a break-up, and although he has to face a lot of pain and anguish, he moves on. Sometimes you should just let wild things be wild. You cannot always tame them, even though many have tried. Usually, they will ravage your heart and leave you broken and tattered for a while afterwards. Its ok. You will survive the break-up, and you WILL be better for it. Keep your head up. You’ve got this! (500) Days of Summer is not a love story, it is a story about love.
