‘What If?’ – Release Date Revealed for the Disney+ Series

Marvel What If..., Marvel Studios

What if the Ten Rings didn’t capture Tony Stark? What if Peggy Carter becomes a super soldier? And what if somebody other than Peter Quill becomes Star-Lord? Those are only three of the questions posed by Marvel’s next Disney+ series.

However, unlike the others we’ve seen so far, What If won’t be live-action. It’s animation.

The series sees the Watcher, Uatu (Jeffrey Wright) watching over various timelines. It’ll focus on stories we’ve seen in the MCU but with an alternate timeline twist. Furthermore, it consists of ten episodes.

A new, and final trailer, has been released revealing the release date.

You can take a look at it below:

It seems What If? isn’t just adapting MCU stories, but alternate timeline meet-ups we’ve yet to see. For example, it looks like Spider-Man is fighting Scarlet Witch. While they’ve shared a screen, they’ve never interacted compared to other characters.

However, in this series, Spider-Man looks to become the Sorcerer Supreme in order to fight her. It’s certainly an interesting take on these two characters. The same can be said for Kilmonger saving Tony Stark from the Ten Rings.

Iron Man is the first entry in the MCU and it’s the ten rings trying to kill Tony that sets events in motion. Therefore, it’s going to be interesting to see how that changes Tony and affects his original arc.

Plus, Kilmonger has a hatred for people like Tony so their ‘relationship’ will be fun to watch.

It looks like this will be an exciting series with surprises along the way. Thankfully, most of the MCU actors are voicing their counterparts. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for Tony Stark, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, Captain America and the Collector.

While What If? is still to come, Loki is on its final episode and Black Widow is now in theatres and on Disney+ worldwide.

What If? premieres on Disney+ August 11 2021.
