Why We Should Be Optimistic About The CW DC Shows’ Upcoming Seasons

The show that spawned it all is now entering its seventh season. Considering that almost everyone will agree that the show peaked during its second season, it has been a while since Arrow fans could smile. Season 5 came close but is very much the diamond in the rough. The latest season ended with a string of strong episodes. This bodes well if the show carries that momentum into season 7.

The trailer released at San Diego Comic-Con this year almost reflects this hope. It was the only CW DC show to release the new footage. It is a move that shows the producers are excited and confident about the show moving forward.

The set up for the new season is an excellent one. Oliver has finally admitted publicly that he is the Green Arrow. He is stuck in a prison surrounded by people he helped put away whilst in the hood. These include returning guest stars such as Vinnie Jones (fresh from the disappointment of having his latest show Deception canceled before it even had a chance).

Meanwhile, returning for the good guys is Colton Haynes as Roy Harper. We last saw him leaving to have a future with Thea. This puts questions marks over his return, though. (The production team keep saying that Roy’s return is going to be ‘shocking’.) The trailer also reveals someone masquerading as the Green Arrow in Oliver’s absence.

Roy is going to need a really good reason to have left Thea behind if this is the Roy we already know and love.

The only other potential worry comes from an interview response from Emily Bett Rickards. She revealed that “relationships are broken” in Season 7. The last thing Arrow needs is more infighting. On the positive side, the new trailer did showcase the beginnings of Oliver’s trademark goatee. Here’s hoping this is the start of Arrow embracing its lighter self.

Beth Schwartz is the new show-runner. This would be an excellent way for her to put her stamp on the show.
