Supergirl is in its third season, and if we are honest they are all acceptable. It is fair to say each season is a slight improvement on the last. If you have not seen this show, you should. Melissa Benoist has been a revelation as Kara Danvers. It is hard to imagine anyone else donning the cape now. Between her, Chyler Leigh and David Harewood, Supergirl has potentially one of the strongest acting cores of any show, let alone any CW show.

Supergirl does have a tendency to include former Super-actors into the show. So far, we’ve had Laura Vandervoort and Erica Durance (who played Supergirl and Lois Lane on Smallville, respectively); Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher (from Lois & Clark) and also the legendary Lynda Carter. This season welcomes nerd royalty into the fold as Sam Witwer joins the show.

Surprisingly this is Sam’s first foray into this round of CW shows. The voice of Darth Maul did play Doomsday in Smallville, as well. Once again, it appears Sam is going to be the main villain. That alone is a reason to be excited about this new season.

He is playing Agent Liberty here. Agent Liberty is the head of an anti-alien hate group. They wish to prove humanity’s dominance on this planet. Supergirl has sometimes struggled with its political overtones and we should expect them to be strong with this storyline. However, with a villain played by the charismatic Sam Witwer, we should be in safe hands.

There also is the problem of the second Kara turning up in Siberia at the end of last season. The trailer didn’t even hint at her return. Season 4 has some strong storytelling waiting for us, that is for sure.
