J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker closes the door on the current trilogy storyline and the entire Skywalker Saga. The Saga spans a total of nine films. Daisy Ridley states that although she has not yet read the script
Star Wars will take a short hiatus after Skywalker, before coming back in force with two completely new trilogies set in completely different times. The masterminds behind the next two trilogies are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Rian Johnson.
Kathleen Kennedy recently stated that new core characters could see returns in future Star Wars films. In an interview with Buzzfeed’s AM to DM, Daisy Ridley (Rey) recently stated she is unaware of any return to the franchise for Rey:
“I mean, I can say I’m not in the next trilogy. No. I think, ’cause Rian always said…if it’s the Rian one, or it’s the guys that did Game of Thrones. I’m not sure. Whichever one it was, they always said it was going to be a separate story. So I’m not. No.”
The actress is only focused on Rise of Skywalker, which should ramp up publicity nearer the end of the year. During an appearance on The Tonight Show, she had this to say about J.J. Abrams ending to the Saga:
“Yeah, it’s epic, it’s very exciting.”
Rise of Skywalker stars Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Carrie Fisher, and possibly Mark Hamill.
