You Won’t See X23 Cameos in Other ‘X-Men’ Movies, According to Source

Logan, 20th Century Fox

Dafne Keen was a delight on-screen in Logan as Laura/ X23 opposite Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. She excelled at keeping up with the star, and sometimes even outperformed him. It comes as no surprise that there would be talk about when we could see her character reappear int he X-Men universe.

According to X-Men producer Hutch Parker in an interview with IGN, we may have to wait a bit for her big screen return. Parker says that the studio is looking to give her a solo film, rather than fitting her into any current projects the studio has, such as The New Mutants:

“Yeah, I mean, look — I don’t know definitively, but in terms of the stuff we’ve been talking about, it’s not sort of slipping her into the background of another movie. It’s looking at that character, which is a great character and has a pretty interesting run within the comics, to find a story that we think she could carry or certainly be kind of majorly significant within.

That’s the only kind of thing that Jim [Mangold, director] as a storyteller, a filmmaker… that’s the way his sort of process works. And the way his mind works in terms of what he would aspire to. Which isn’t to say that the studio couldn’t have a conversation about something else, but the one that we’ve been kind of discussing loosely and kicking around is more likely to be its own film.”

This means that FOX may be considering taking the X-Men franchise past the death of Logan. Will the studio try to incorporate X23 into the main X-Men storyline, or will they figure out another avenue for the mutant. Although, Josh Boone’s The New Mutants is next on the FOX slate, but after how great X23 was in Logan, you can bet people will ask why she isn’t in the film.

The New Mutants hits theaters April 23, 2018.
