The Original Script for the Josh Trank ‘Fantastic Four’ Was Fantastic!

The 2015 version Fantastic Four directed by Josh Trank is considered by some to be the worst superhero movie of all time. It was a failure in every sense of the word. Thank has put the blame on studio intervention, whereas the studio blames Trank. It is a vicious cycle of blame, and one where we may never know exactly what happened.

Screen Crush has an interesting interview with screenwriter Jeremy Slater, who wrote a few of the initial versions of the script for the film. This came before Josh Trank and Simon Kinberg put their approval on it. Slater talks about the things that were cut from the script in making the film. There are some pretty ambitious things that he was wanting to include in the film. Slater says:

In addition to Annihilus and the Negative Zone, we had Doctor Doom declaring war against the civilized world, the Mole Man unleashing a 60 foot genetically engineered monster in downtown Manhattan, a commando raid on the Baxter Foundation, a Saving Private Ryan-style finale pitting our heroes against an army of Doombots in war-torn Latveria, and a post-credit teaser featuring Galactus and the Silver Surfer destroying an entire planet. We had monsters and aliens and Fantasticars and a cute spherical H.E.R.B.I.E. robot that was basically BB-8 two years before BB-8 ever existed. And if you think all of that sounds great…well, yeah, we did, too. The problem was, it would have also been massively, MASSIVELY expensive.

This idea would have been really expensive, but would have made the film be more like the comic, rather than the dark, serious film that we saw in theaters. Trank’s version was on a different wavelength than Slater, but it would be nice to actually see what Trank’s true version was like. Even if it is just as bad as the theatrical version.
