It has been some time since the world got Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. Guillermo del Toro has promised fans that Hellboy 3 will happen. The franchises’ star, Ron Perlman, was even on-board but still no word of a sequel, and no date was set by the studio. A few weeks ago, del Toro said that he was going to push for a third film again, and now, sadly, it seems that the film is finally dead. The premise to Hellboy is simple and a thing of beauty:
At the end of World War II, the Nazis attempt to open a portal to a paranormal dimension in order to defeat the Allies, but are only able to summon a baby demon who is rescued by Allied forces and dubbed “Hellboy” (Ron Perlman). Sixty years later, Hellboy serves as an agent in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, where he, aided by Abe Sapien (Doug Jones), a merman with psychic powers, and Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), a woman with pyrokinesis, protects America against dark forces.
del Toro posted the grim news on his Twitter account this morning. What he posted is his final goodbye to the franchise. You can tell by his abrupt message that he is not letting go willingly, but that Hollywood has turned its back on Hellboy. You can check out the Twitter post below:
Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it

It is a sad day for all fans of the Hellboy franchise. Sadly there will officially never be another adventure for Big Red and the rest of the B.P.R.D. team. The lack of interest by Hollywood can directly be attributed to Hellboy 2: The Golden Army underperforming at the box office. del Toro fought for Hellboy 3 for the better part of the last decade. It was a noble fight, but all good fights must come to an end.
Ron Perlman also confirmed the news via Twitter as well:
Superhero seeks employment. Likes, pizza, cats, and the Marx bros. https://t.co/TnWaFlE3tx

And Hellboy creator Mike Mignola also chimed in:
