New Line Cinema still wants to reboot A Nightmare on Elm Street, despite the last reboot bombing at the box office. This is not new news, as talks about a reboot have happened for the last five years.

In 2015, the reboot made headlines again when writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick (The Conjuring 2) signed on to pen the screenplay. That was the last news anyone has heard since 2015. Could the project be dead in the water?

Johnson-McGoldrick spoke with GameSpot recently, saying that the project is not completely dead, but little is happening right now:

“It’s still happening. Nothing is percolating just yet. The Conjuring universe is sort of first and foremost on [New Line Cinema’s] horror burner. Everybody wants to see Freddy again I think, so I think it’s inevitable at some point.”

Johnson-McGoldrick recently co-wrote Aquaman for DC and Warner Brothers. The Conjuring 3 is his current project, eying a 2020 release date. With the recent success of Halloween, most studios are tapping reboot Successful films.
