The official 2017 Oscar nominations are in, and you might be a bit surprised at some of the nominees. In a rather unorthodox move, the normal press junket announcing the nominations was skipped this year. Instead, there was a twenty-minute pre-taped broadcast streamed earlier this morning.
There are the usual suspects this year, with La La Land nabbing 14 nominations, and Moonlight and Arrival both grabbing 8. There were some big snubs to go along with the big nominations. Where is Amy Adams recognition for Arrival? It doesn’t exist here. The biggest surprise of the entire Oscar nomination list is Martin Scorsese’s missionary film Silence only getting one Oscar nomination. It is also a big shame to see that Deadpool received zero Oscar nominations this year. You cannot say that Ryan Reynolds didn’t try.
