Batwoman Debuts and Superman Returns in Upcoming ‘Arrowverse’ Crossover

Batwoman is coming to the Arrowverse for this year’s crossover. The news was announced by Stephen Amell at the CW Upfronts. Orange is the New Black and John Wick 2 alum Ruby Rose will portray Kate Kane/Batwoman.

Batwoman was originally created in 1956 as Kathy Kane until her revamp in 2006. The new Kate Kane version is who fans will see this December.

Kate Kane is one of DC’s most popular openly gay superheroes and is the cousin to Bruce Wayne/Batman. Don’t expect to see the Dark Knight on the show anytime soon though.

Speaking at the Upfronts The CW President Mark Pedowitz confirms the news:

“Batman already exists in the Arrowverse because last season Oliver Queen mentioned his name at one point. And Batwoman, if the series goes forward, lives in Gotham. There’s no plan at this time to have Batman appear.”

Kate Kane and Alex Danvers are both in love with Maggie Sawyer

Kate Kane’s past relationships in the Comics include Maggie Sawyer (Floriana Lima), which may prove interesting if Kate hails from Earth-38. This is the Earth in which Maggie’s ex (and new Director of the DEO) Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) lives.

It’s still unclear what story will force Batwoman out of the shadows of Gotham and into the light of the Arrowverse.

However, there are details coming out about the crossover, and those involve the release dates and the return of a character.

The Legends of Tomorrow will not feature in the upcoming crossover

The crossover will begin on Sunday 9th of December with The Flash and continues over the next two nights with Arrow and Supergirl respectively.

This will be the third big crossover between the Arrowverse shows, although the Legends of Tomorrow will not be joining in this one.

While it is sad there won’t be any Legends, TVLine has broken the news a certain Man of Steel will return, and he’s not alone.

Tyler Hoechlin and Melissa Benoist as Superman and Supergirl

That’s right, Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman will return for the three-night crossover. The last time audiences saw Superman was during the Supergirl Season 2 finale. He was under the control of Rhea (Teri Hatcher) and battled his cousin Supergirl (Melissa Benoist).

What brings him to the crossover is anyone’s guess but it’ll be good to see him meeting the other heroes.

He won’t be alone though. Joining Clark Kent is Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Lois Lane. Supergirl producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner released a statement regarding the debut of the character:

“We couldn’t be more excited to introduce Lois Lane to the Arrowverse. This dogged, determined, and brave reporter will make for a strong partner to Superman and amazing addition to our universe of DC characters.”

General Sam Lane (Glenn Morshower) and Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan) in Supergirl Season 1

Fans may remember meeting two members of the Lane family already.

General Sam Lane (Glenn Morshower) and Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan) appeared in Season 1 of Supergirl. It’s about time the most recognizable Lane makes her way to the Arrowverse. At the present time, it’s unknown if any of her family will appear with her.

Unfortunately, the casting for Lois Lane has yet to be announced but news on that front can’t be too far away. With Batwoman’s introduction and Superman’s return, hopefully, there is a TV Justice League on the horizon.
